More than a thousand players have registered for the cybersecurity game

As of the beginning of March, there are more than one thousand and two hundred registered participants in the Slovak CyberGame and 540 male players and 32 female players are actively playing. The extraordinary interest of different age categories and professions surprised the official sponsor of the competition, which is the National Cyber Security Centre SK-CERT.

CyberGame is primarily a knowledge competition on cybersecurity and contains more than fifty tasks of varying difficulty. Those interested can try simple tasks that have zero difficulty and use the help or professional consultation of the expert guarantor. At the highest level of difficulty, the game becomes a training platform for professionals. All players need is a computer and freely available analytical tools to participate in the game, and players collect points and flags for each problem solved.

CyberGame in numbers

  • 1,223 registered participants
  • 572 male and female players who have scored, i.e. solved at least one task
  • 252 players from the primary / secondary school category
  • 182 players from colleges
  • 37 players who stated in their registration that they are teachers
  • 26 players, professionals from partner companies, who are off the table but can see their results

“The competition has a tremendous momentum. The two favourites at the top of the table are sometimes separated by just one point. The way we follow what’s happening on the gaming platform, we’re getting more and more interested in the topic of cybersecurity,” said Rastislav Janota, Director of the National Cyber Security Centre SK-CERT.

The SK-CERT team creates new challenges every week and manages a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) channel on Discord, where players can also find other necessary information. The four game branches – malware analysis, obfuscation and cryptography, forensics and OSINT analysis – are inspired by the daily performance of professionals.

Rewards for players are in multiple categories to make the game motivating for less experienced participants and to give space to young talents as well. The best player, the best female player and the best student player will get a trip to ESET’s malware lab in Canada. A player’s notebook is prepared for the youngest player who solves all tasks with basic difficulty and at least two arbitrary tasks with higher difficulty.

The CyberGame closes on May 10th, and registration is open until the penultimate day of the competition.
